Cadillac CTS Coupe Delayed

Cadillac was originally supposed to debut the production CTS Coupe at the L.A. show last November, but being that they were a little busy at the time with Congressional hearings and possible bankruptcy, decided to push back the coupe’s debut to the Detroit show.  Now comes word via Automotive News that Cadillac is again delaying the coupe’s launch by a full year to summer 2010.

“We made a few changes to the overall portfolio,” explains Joanne Krell, a GM spokeswoman. “Obviously we are in a challenging economic time, and one of the changes is to move the coupe back a year. Instead of coming out this summer, it will come out next summer.”

The coupe has taken a backseat to the CTS wagon which will go on sale as planned this spring, a somewhat questionable move as luxury wagons dont have a particularly strong following. A coupe would better cement Cadillac’s luxury positioning given that Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz all have one or more. But it does take money to launch an all new vehicle and that’s something GM doesn’t have too much of right now.
