2010 Jaguar XJL Neiman Marcus Edition The Miami Auto Show begins this Friday Oct 23 and one very eagerly anticipated vehicle will be there: the all new for 2010 Jaguar XJ. The new XJ is not only significant because its luxury maker has a storied past and tremendous cachet, but also because its maker is going through troubling times and this car needs to be successful if Jaguar is to be around for much longer. The 2011 Lexus LF-A Supercar

October 22, 2009

2011 Lexus LF-A

In markets across Europe and the US, Lexus has always been a luxury brand without a real performance heritage, and therefore, without a soul. The cars have always been very well built and appropriately luxurious but they never really appealed to buyers that trend towards the driver’s car/performance end of the spectrum. They are upscale Toyotas after all, a maker that has smartly, business-wise at least, focused on the everyday and the reliable. But that is all about to change…somewhat. [click to continue...]

Mazda RX-7 Revival

October 21, 2009

1995 Mazda RX-7
The 1990s have been long gone for a while now, and unfortunately, so has Mazda’s RX-7. Having been effectively replaced by the RX-8 in the market, enthusiast’s hearts and minds have remained another matter entirely. Ever since the low slung two-seater was replaced by a larger half door-backseat toting sibling, wishful thinking has been rampant ever since about when a real RX-7 would come back. 2010 Porsche 911 Turbo

The 2010 Porsche 911 Turbo was introduced over the summer and is just now making the rounds with reviewers. This Turbo brings together many technologies that have been in various Porsche race and road cars such as the GT2 and GT3. The engine is based on the newer 3.8-liter unit from the Carrera S but features variable turbine geometry, direct-injection, integrated dry-sump lubrication, dynamic engine mounts, and a new intake that effectively cools the air before entering the turbos.

One very welcome change is with the 7-speed dual-clutch PDK, gone are the awkward thumb buttons to change gears, it now features much more natural feeling paddles behind the steering wheel. [click to continue...]

6versus8 "Challenge"
Remember Russell Crowe in Gladiator? There’s a scene towards the end of the movie where the wimpy and deranged emperor plans a gladiator style fight to the death in the Colosseum against big, beefy “commander of the armies of the north” Maximus, and in turn win over the people’s favor. Ordinarily, you’d have to be crazy to bet against Maximus, there’s no way in hell he could lose to a wimpy wannabe like the emperor. But we soon learn why the Emperor thinks he has a chance. Just before the fight, the Emperor visits a tied up Maximus and proceeds to mortally stab him in the side. Ahh, nothing like showing the world you truly can beat down a Roman General…. as long as he has a deep, blood gushing stab wound. Remember the scene? Apparently, Ford does too. Chrysler As A Luxury Brand?

September 25, 2009

Chrysler ImperialAuto sites across the web have been almost universally coming down on Chrysler CEO Peter Fong’s revelation to Business Week that they will be positioning the brand as a true luxury make, his exact words being “a notch above Lincoln, a notch above Cadillac”.  Regardless of who is giving Business Week the interview, its clear that Chrysler’s new bosses at Fiat are starting off down the same road that previous owner Daimler AG did:  come up with a luxury image as opposed to a luxury car. Duhhh! Camaro Z28 Back On Track

September 23, 2009

Chevrolet Camaro LS7 Concept

The new Camaro has been a hit for GM since they started selling it this past spring, even outselling the Mustang every month so far. But while Ford has the 540hp GT500 to brag about, GM has had to make do with the its regular V8 SS model that puts out only 426hp. This, as you can see, puts the new Chevy at a disadvantage in the eyes of car mags, spec-sheet racers, and school boys everywhere. But according to GM’s very own Ed Wellburn, thats about to change shortly. [click to continue...]
